Key to Understanding the Spec Value Hunter Tables
Flagship Play Secondary Plays Other Plays
A Spec Value Hunter table allows speculators to identify which projects offer poor, fair or good speculative value according to the rational speculation model. The speculative value depends on the project stage, the project's implied value as calculated by the company's fully diluted, stock price and net project interest, and the dream target deemed appropriate for the project. A dream target is what a project would be worth in discounted cash flow terms once in production.
Poor Speculative Value - Fair Speculative Value - Good Speculative Value -
Note: narrow arrows indicate IPV is outside the fair value channel but within 25% of the fair value limits

Notes on Buffalo Hills Project
Ashton initiated exploration of the Buffalo Hills project in 1997 after reviewing oil exploration related seismic data provided by Encana (then called Alberta Energy). Strategic partner Pure Gold became part of a 3 way joint venture that resulted in the discovery of 38 kimberlite pipes of which 26 proved diamondiferous. The large K14 and K91 pipes received initial mini bulk sampling attention, but delivered erratic low grades with a few large gem quality diamonds. Work was suspended because the grade was deemed too low. In 2001 Ashton discovered the B252 pipe which yielded a mini bulk sample grade of 55 cpht. This grade had economic potential, but B252's small size and significant overburden ruled out economic viaibility. Pure Gold and Encana stopped funding work on the Buffalo Hills as Ashton used geophysical technqiues to try to find other pipes with B252 affinity but a bigger size without success. The Buffalo Hills kimberlite field has a similarity with the Fort a la Corne kimberlites in that the Alberta pipes have weak pyrope chemistry (ie minimal G10's), are low grade, and are large tonnage bodies with intact crater facies. Bulk sampling by Shore Gold on the Star pipe in Saskatchewan yielded gem quailty diamonds with an average modeled value in excess of $100 per carat. This opened the possibility for a large scale mining scenario where kimberlite with a rock value of $20-$30 per tonne could be economically exploited. The large size of the Alberta pipes and the inadequacy of past small scale sampling to properly assess these pipes in terms of FALC style mining scenarios encouraged Ashton to negoatiate a deal in August 2006 that would allow it to boost its stake to 72.5% by spending $15 million by April 30, 2010. The focus will be to delineation drill K14 and K91 using contemporary micro diamond analysis, and extract another 200 tonnes from K14.
