The KRO Nevada Resource Center spotlights public companies that have an interest or royalty in a major Nevada mine, an advanced Nevada project, or an exploration focus on Nevada. The graphic below show how important Nevada is to the United States in terms of gold production.
The unusual geological history of Nevada includes major thrust faulting several hundred million years ago that created the Upper-Lower Plate assemblage which is key to the formation of Carlin-type gold deposits, a magmatic sweep across northern Nevada 42-25 million years ago that created the Carlin deposits, and a major rifting event around 16 million years ago which created the "basin and range" topography and unleashed a flood of younger volcanics and epithermal gold-silver deposits. The result is that perhaps less than half of Nevada's gold endowment has been discovered, thanks to cover in the form of thrusted barren Upper Plate rocks, younger volcanics and gravel filling the down-dropped basins. Nevada 2.0 - under cover exploration - is the next gold exploration frontier in the United States requiring sophisticated geology and new exploration tools. The 11 minute video below describes this potential and explains one new approach to finding Nevada's missing gold.
Each green dot on the map of Nevada links to a 43-101 technical report published on SEDAR by a Canadian reporting issuer. These reports are without peer in terms of detail and a wealth of information about an area's geology and exploration history. For example Placer's 2005 Cortez JV Report has lots of background that includes Pipeline, while Barrick's 2012 Report details the Cortez Mine.
Half of Nevada has been down-dropped as basins that filled with gravel. Hydrogeochemistry is a tool that can reveal the presence of mineralized bedrock. This compilation of technical literature is intended to help readers understand this exploration tool which represents the key to a renewed exploration boom in Nevada.
NGE created a multi-part 43 minute video which introduces how Carlin type deposits are formed, why they are so difficult to find, and the groundwater sampling strategy this group has pursued over the past 15 years to find new gold districts hidden under the basin gravels. This page breaks the video into more smaller units.
